Romantic Comedies of 2009

When your boyfriend is leaving you and you feel lonely it is time… to watch romantic comedies :) . Let’s face it; he will never be into “Titanic” or “The Notebook” so why not to enjoy without him!

I looked up the year of 2009 and realized that I have not watched any significant comedies at all.  It was the right time to change it. I have a lot of ice-cream and no one would mind if I eat it all!

Here the Romantic Comedies of 2009 which I had a possibility to watch while HE was not here :)

  1. Ugly Truth – extremely funny and fun.Highly recommended
  2. The Proposal – I could not stop laughing! So funny!
  3. He’s Just Not That Into You – very nice
  4. Confessions of a Shopaholic – OMG! I still want THAT scarf!
  5. New in Town – quite cute
  6. Couples Retreat – easy and funny
  7. It’s Complicated – so bad that I could not finish it
  8. Love Happens – zzzzz boring
  9. All About Steve – pretty bad
  10. Did You Hear About The Morgans – the worst movie I’ve watched.

Germany – England 4:1. WE NEED ELECTRONICS!

The second goal of English team which was not count because the referee was the only person on the field who DIDN’T see that the ball crossed the line let me think more about electronics in football. I guess you always have more talks about different aspects of this game and possible changes during World Cups in general but there were so many mistakes this time that I cannot believe it. We live in XXI century and know that human beings are not perfect and can make mistakes. It is time to face that electronics can HELP us! (Henry’s hand which let France win the qualification round to South Africa would never happen if we use it). Why other popular sport games such as hockey or tennis are happily using electronics but football can not?!! Why don’t we allow coaches to stop a game let’s say 3 times per game and ask for a replay? Questions, questions, I really want some answers, Mr Blatter!

Natalia Vodianova

Forbes Magazine published a list of the top models of the world earning the most money and there was a Russian top-model Natalia Vodianova in the sixth place. Honestly, I didn’t even know how she looks like so I guess it was a good time for me to have a look. To my disappointment she was not even beautiful enough to be one of the greatest models    :(    …

I guess it is only about being in the right place in the right time… having a great make-up.

The First Time

I have to admit that I love smoothies; they are healthy and tasty summer drinks which you can buy in certain places… I was not lucky with Albany, as most of places put too much coloured or flavored juices instead of real ones. So you can only imagine the colour of my tongue after drinking it!

Even when I asked someone where the best smoothie place is I was sent to the shop which was closed for more than a year!!!

It was a good time to try and make a smoothie myself.

The recipe was simple:

-frosen bananas,

-frosen mango;

-fresh apple juice.

OMG, it was amazingly tasty (big surprise!) and my first home made smoothie will definitely be not the last one :) .

Your ID, please!

I had an amusing incident today. I just needed to get some more petrol…oh “gas” so I stopped and filled up the car. Someone told me that the easiest way to get matches is in the same place. So I asked if they had any matches there and surprisingly was asked if I am over 18 years old.

I astonished for a moment and said that I am already 23 but it was not enough as I have been asked for my ID!!!! I thought someone is joking and asked if they were serious. They were very serious.

I needed to go to the car in order to get my ID. I was still shocked but showing my ID asked what the reason is as I am not even buying cigarettes and I am already driving a car which means I am not a child. I was told that you can drive when you are 16 but you only allowed matches at the age of 18!!!!… because matches are flammable.

Does it make sense?

Who wears Karen Millen in the United States?

My best ever boyfriend was so kind to drive me for three hours inthe worst possible rain so I  can visit the only Karen Millen outlet store in whole United States! It was so worth it!

Karen Millen is an English brand which has only several stores throughout the USA and the prices in those stores are much higher than even in England where this brand came from.

A couple of months ago I really liked the coat which I tried in a Karen Millen store. It was so much cheaper to order it in England and send to the States than to buy it from the store that it was amazing!

I was looking forward to this visit to Outlets and it didn’t disappoint me.

The Wrentham outlets where Karen Millen store located were huge and it took me a while to find the store I came for.

I and Mark spent there about two hours trying on clothes which were just like made for me. Everything was sitting perfectly, which happens so rare with me! The tough moment was to choose what I am going to buy as everything was so great. Three dresses, a top and a pair of shoes was the result of the visit and to my happiness the prices were as they should be in outlet store and plus to all of it I had a 25% discount only because I signed to be a member of the Wrentham outlets and just printed the coupon which was really useful :) .

I would definitely consider another trip there in the future and I LOVE KAREN MILLEN! The clothes they make are gorgeous!

Dinner at the Culinary Institute of America

I am just back from Culinary Institute of America where I had a lovely dinner with my boyfriend. I would prefer to start about the college first.

It is situated right by the river in a nice area with parks, geese, squirrels… and endless smells of food. Everywhere around the college you can smell it, it is unavoidable! If you were a tourist like me you would directly get hungry. There were a lot of students walking with the small white boxes and there always was a smell of food too. I had that urge when i really wanted to know what is inside that smells so nicely but there was nothing you can do to find out unless you wanted to be rude. Anyway the college looked as a good place to learn how to cook and a great place for future chefs.

By the way, being an employee of Marriott I was surprised to see an Educational center of JW Marriott. I am proud that he also takes part in the culinary education and helps future chefs of the Marriott hotels as well :) .

By the time we finally got to the restaurant I was so hungry that I could eat anything. We had a reservation for Caterina de’ Medici restaurant which serves the Italian food. I have to admit that the food was exceptional though the service was not that great. It was understandable and expectable as the waiter was a student and obviously didn’t have much of the experience. We had a great time there though and no doubt I would love to go back.

Buying winter boots in America

It was a real pain for me to find real winter boots in the USA. For some bizarre reason Americans have a different attitude about winter shoes. The choice is very poor; you need to choose between sporty ugly style waterproof boots or ugly Uggs from Australia which are worn by every girl from 15 to 25!

I needed casual leather boots with natural fur inside and was very upset when I realized it was not going to be an easy buy.

First I asked at work if someone knows the brands which sell this kind of boot. The only answer I got was these popular Uggs again! OK, I went on their web-site but could not find anything decent. Then I spent a couple of days browsing the web but got nowhere again.

I asked a couple of immigrants from Russia and Serbia about winter boots and both of them brought their winter shoes from abroad because they could not get them here. I was getting more and more concerned and wished I bought boots in Ukraine.

My boyfriend came up with the idea that Canadian boots might be something I want as it is colder there and people should wear good boots. Our trip to Montreal disappointed me as despite the fact that Montreal is a great place for shopping I didn’t find my “perfect winter shoes”.

I already had a thought that I would have to spend this winter with no boots when I found them! UGGS! How pathetic but I love them :) .

Food Preferences

When I visited the United States for the first time I was really shocked by the amount of fast food and the fat people everywhere. I cannot say that Ukrainian people all skinny and healthy but their diet is much better. I noticed that I cannot even stay in supermarkets much longer because I still could smell fast food which was making me sick.

Living in America for five months I finally get used to seeing it everywhere; people who are stopping at Dunkin’ Donuts at 7 o’clock in the morning are not surprising me anymore, I just find it amusing.

Dunkin DonutsI also found out that Americans love cheese, any type of cheese in any type of food. Once I was in Chinese restaurant and I ordered noodles which came with cheese on top. I don’t know since when Chinese started to eat cheese? My suggestions to everyone who is not a great fan of this product, if you are at the restaurant, specify if you don’t want cheese with your meal or would like to have a little bit of it.

I really like that you can always get free water in the USA if you are at the restaurant of cafe. Americans love all the drinks with ice and it does not matter if it is summer or winter all the drinks will be cold with a big amount of ice. Again the best way is simply to ask for water with no ice as I do :) .
